Leadership & Staff
Mike joined the HealthSouth team in May 2014 and brings twenty-five years of executive healthcare experience to the Treasure Coast. He graduated from Florida State University receiving his degree in business administration and then earned a master’s of business administration through Florida Institute of Technology. Having held executive level positions in physician practice management, disease management, hospitalist, and acute care hospital systems, Mike brings a broad knowledge and a unique perspective of health care delivery systems. Mike also has familiarity with and appreciation for Vero Beach and Indian River County where he and his wife, Norma lived and raised two sons, Michael and Matt.
Jimmy Lockhart, M.D.
Dr. Jimmy Lockhart is the chief medical officer and medical director at HealthSouth Treasure Coast Rehabilitation Hospital. A graduate of Meharry Medical College, Dr. Lockhart completed his physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at Louisiana State University in New Orleans. He is board certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Jimmy Lockhart, M.D. is an independent private practice physician whose office is located at the hospital.
Director of Therapy Operations
Susie is the director of therapy operations at HealthSouth Treasure Coast Rehabilitation Hospital. An experienced clinician and manager, she has inpatient, outpatient and rehabilitation training from Lutheran General Hospital and Marianjoy Rehabilitation Center. Susie is NDT certified and specializes in rehabilitation. Her passion is education and her teaching experience includes seminars on Stroke Management, Gait Dysfunction and Neuro Rehabilitation. Susie graduated from Northwestern University in Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy.
Chief Nursing Officer
Maureen is the chief nursing officer at HealthSouth Treasure Coast. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas, Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas and her Masters in Business Administration from Texas Woman’s University in Houston, Texas. Her nursing background is in critical care with certification as a critical care nurse. Maureen has worked in acute care at both for-profit and not-for-profit facilities. She has been in a leadership role for the past 15 years and thoroughly enjoys teambuilding, teaching and ensuring our patients are safe and have the best patient experience we can offer.
Chief Financial Officer
Kevin serves as the chief financial officer for HealthSouth Treasure Coast Rehabilitation Hospital. He has more than 23 years of progressive financial and administrative experience ranging from large, for-profit medical-surgical and specialty hospitals, to both large and small nonprofit community health systems where he was responsible for all the financial reporting, regulatory reporting, and facility operational management reporting and control. While at HealthSouth Treasure Coast, Kevin has held the positions of controller, regional controller and, briefly, was responsible for the operational duties as interim administrator. He graduated from the University of Central Florida with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Alastair Kennedy, M.D.
Medical Staff, President
Dr. Kennedy received his medical degree from the University of Glasgow in Scotland. He has been a senior guest lecturer at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa and a research professor at the State University of Buffalo in New York. Dr. Kennedy is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a fellow of the Royal Academy of Physicians. He is credentialed in internal medicine, rheumatology and rehabilitation. He has been elected the president of the medical staff since the hospital opened. With a focus on education, Dr. Kennedy is active as a community advisor to the new FSU medical school extension in Indian River County and guests lectures at the University of South Florida Medical School.
Dr. Alastair Kennedy is an independent private practice physician whose office is located at the hospital.
Area Director of Marketing Operations
Brandi joined HealthSouth in 2013 as director of marketing and was promoted in 2014 to area director of marketing of HealthSouth Treasure Coast Rehabilitation Hospital and HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital at Martin Health. Brandi brings more than 10 years of marketing and sales experience and eight years as a registered nurse to her role. She studied marketing at Colorado State University and obtained her nursing degree from Indian River State College. Her areas of expertise in healthcare include wound care, hyperbaric medicine and medical-surgical nursing.
Director of Case Management
Karrie has been employed at HealthSouth Southern Hills since May 2011. She has more than 14 years of case management experience, with focus in the areas of discharge planning, utilization review, ethics, and patient advocacy. After obtaining her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Greensboro College, she began her career in the social work field. Karrie is a licensed social worker in the state of West Virginia.
Mary-Jean Palmer, RN, MS, HACP, CPHQ, LHRM
Quality Risk Management Director
Mary-Jean grew up on a dairy farm in Cooperstown, NY. She attended Cooperstown Central School and completed her RN training at Ellis Hospital School of Nursing. She received her bachelor degree from Russell Sage College in Troy, NY and a master's degree from Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz.
Mary-Jean's nursing career started in psychiatric nursing at Ellis Hospital. After moving to Arizona, she was employed as a corporate nurse before joining Good Samaritan Medical Center in outpatient, acute hemodialysis, renal/transplant. She has also served as the Director of Quality Management for Kindred Hospital in Ontario, Calif.
Human Resource Director
Linda Rinehart is the human resources director of HealthSouth Treasure Coast Rehabilitation Hospital. Linda brings over 30 years of experience in executive level human resource management. Her recent experience includes eight years of experience in a regional human resources position. She also has experience with other industries including a healthcare not-for-profit and various positions for a Fortune 500 Insurance Company. Linda attended Queens College, where she obtained her B.S. in business administration.
